Understanding Your Insurance Coverage

What you need to know before your next visit

Insurance changes can affect your eligibility for care, appointment scheduling, and out-of-pocket costs. If your insurance carrier or plan has changed, please contact our office before your appointment to avoid unexpected issues. We’re here to help you navigate these updates and make sure you’re covered.

Where can I find what insurances the office participates with?

We regularly update the list of accepted insurance plans on our website at www.drtangoren.com. If your plan isn’t listed or you have questions, contact the office or message our billing department through the patient portal. See the list below for more details

Do I need to notify the office of a change of insurance?

Yes. Always call us if your insurance changes so we can confirm we accept both your insurer and your specific plan. This prevents appointment issues and helps us provide uninterrupted care.

What am I financially responsible for at the office?

Patients are responsible for copays, coinsurance, deductibles, cosmetic procedures, and any services not covered by insurance. Deductibles reset in the new year, and we collect patient responsibility at check-in. Self-pay patients are responsible for payment in full at the time of service.

Can I still be seen if I have an insurance the practice does not participate with?

In many cases, yes—with some exceptions:

  • WellCare: We cannot see Medicare beneficiaries as private-pay patients under federal law.
  • United Health Care Empire (NYSHIP): Can be seen as a self-pay patient. We will submit the claim on your behalf.
  • Medicaid as Secondary Coverage: If your primary insurance is commercial and Medicaid is secondary, you may continue care with us as a self-pay patient for the Medicaid portion (some restrictions apply—please call to discuss).

Note: We do not participate with Medicaid, so prescriptions from our providers will not be covered.
